BLACK HUMOUR UNDER THE MASK

SIZE

We produce a universal size of the masks. We are not specialised in masks for children therefore we do not produce any smaller sizes. The size of replicas of an author craft is designed for a head of an adult person.  The size changes with different types of character only. The masks’ faces adapt to any human head thanks to its softness. We could reccomend or exclude certain types of masks which wouldn’t fit or would be too tight (that could cause a deformation of the mask) if you ask us directly. A comical character can be created if a teenager takes on the masks’ face. I do strongly recommend, however, to supervise children at all time due to safety of children as well as the GF masks life. (One never knows what children think of.)


GRIMACES AND MOVEMENTS OF GF MASKS FACES

Grimases works the best if the masks’ face fits accurately. Each type of Mask of Face has its own character, proportion and size. It may happen that the Masks of Face will be loose on one’s face. An exact transfer of facial grimaces is enabled by a special custom made mask only, where  every facial muscle touches the mask on every inch.  A special gadgetry is implanted where the mask doesn’t fit properly.  We have to take up with basic expressive grimaces. The more a mask is loose on one’s face the more all facial grimaces are reduced. A plastic foam can be used to stuff the mask to increase the transfer of facial movements.
You can also increase the transfer of facial movements by using an appropriate glue, e.g. a glue used by actors in theathre. The result will depend on individual use and it will creatively vary from case to case. Generaly it depends on how much you’ll stick the mask to the face. This rule applies for lips movements as well. If the mask fits properly – it moves accordingly. If you wish to glue the mask to your face, please use a special glue used by professional actors in theatres. Only those are safe. Do not use any other glue. Gluing the masks is not a part of GF dramaturgy as we choose rather easier way of quick taking the masks  on and off. Please note that an slight inconvenience can occur when gluing the mask directly on face. A glued mask causes sweating  and therefore it is advisable to carry a personal hygienic aids with you. COLOR

We use a specially prepared dye which can not be used without a professional equipment. If you wish to add more colors to your mask, do not use any agressive colors and colors that leave dry and hard surface effects. Dry colors can damage the surface of the masks. Please be careful when using any additional colors as make-up, it can be easily wiped off when taking the mask on/off.
Note that any additional home-made modifying is excluded from a complaint procedure.  Should you wish to experiment with your own creativity please bear on mind optimal solution and possible and to avoid unnecessary expenses. There is no universal advise how to do so. Therefore we reccomend to consider carefully your method/plan.

 


 

GLOBAL EFFECT

You can increase the professional look of your Mask Of Face by adding a wig, false teeth, glasses, costume, contact lenses, artificial lashes or any other props. I reccomend to take a bit of  time for preparation and tests as well as a proper search for quality accesories. Cheap and unrealistic fakes from chain stores can damage otherwise perfect effect of your disguise. In a line of special effects even only one bad choice can degrade or destroy the whole illusion.


SPECIAL REQUEST

The dramaturgy of GF company is focused on a family fun. We will always try to satisfy any special request if possible. Despite this we cannot turn aside from our strict sets of trading and producing systems, which allow us to keep affordable prices. Any major variation from existing designes of our Masks Of Faces causes huge  complication in the production itself. Therefore it is  neccessary to carefully consider a creation of a new prototype as it is a very expensive, individual matter. I am convinced that the existing range of our Masks of Faces collection offers huge, creative possibilities  even without a need of creating a totally new, custom made 3D prototype.  That is a matter for   professional movie producers. There is no problem with changing a color or changing a characteristic make-up according to a sample, you’d sent us. For example, you’d like to have a mask of an green old man with a snot. Or, we can change the color and create a clown or a zebra from any mask you fancy. There is no problem to change the color of eyes, skin colors according different ethnics, lips tone... You say it. Additional cost are solved from case to case but don’t worry we won’t ask too much. Only terms of delivery can be slightly prolonged when asking for color alternations. If you wish, we can send you a mask with no other colors  but an ethnic skin tone you choose so you can create  your own make-up. The price of these “naked” Masks of Faces remains the same as we have to lay the same amount of the usual protective layers  on it.


NON-PROFITABLE USE

Don’t worry, you can do whatever you want to with the Mask of Faces. You can be as creative as you can. The result of your creativity – a decoration or even an acting performance, can be photographed and/or recorded. There would be a problem though, when using our product in any way (public or private) to gain any amount of money or other kind of benefits. Close friends, boyfriends or girlfriends, family members, neighbours, schoolmates, teachers etc. are not strangers, therefore there is no need to charge money for your performance/show.
The author of Masks of Faces has nothing against any kind of usage as long as it is free of any kind of charge.  You can change and use any accesories you like to (even totally) change the look of our Masks of Faces.. e.g. you’d need a creepy forest creature for an amateur theatre show...You can decorate the mask for a party. You can also use our mask in a non-profitable movie of yours..
Limits are constituted only for any professional, public, profitable usage.


GF's KNOW HOW

We don't bestow any information about the company’s Know How as it is a résumé of expensive investments and a work of many specialised professionals during the decades. We had to develop and carefully test many patents. We cannot give out such information. We do not sell/give out any of our materials we use either. Most important is a safety when using these materials. There are very strict safety precautions in  our businesses.  GF company is neither  educational  nor state’s company. Therefore any activities of this kind are out of the frame of our offer as well as the dramaturgy.
Greyland Film is not a wholesale business. The company is based on a position of a producer with own, original dramaturgy and style which is suggestively offered to a professional distributors if they haven't chosen a style for themselves. All the Gf’s activities does not consists only of the production of Masks of Faces. Our activities include e.g. “basic” form of distribution directly to customers ( E-shop) and a providing of related services.  Read on to learn more about other GF activities.  The Gf company definitely does not belongs to subjects whose basic and last aim is money earning. We work in such dramaturgical environment where this is not the target. There is a necessity of financial needs in our company as well, of course.  Should finances be an “intelectual” limit for us then we’d rather fill our work days with something diferent and easier.


CUSTOM MADE MASK

We have requests to create a new, 3D, custom made Mask of Face. People are usually asking for masks of local politicians, their chiefs, supervisors, favourite artists or sportsmen, or simply for a mask of their own face. A conception of my collection of Maks of Faces is universal ( and it’s still growing in this idea) so anybody can find an inspiration he/she seeks. A very few people realize that while requesting a new Mask of Face (one which is not in our collection) he/she asks for a prototype. The costs are similar to buying a new motorcycle (moreover, those are produced in hundreds – not just one piece). By creating a prototype, we create a new character – a face of a new creature. Try to check some information about masks of characters in movies, for example. The more effective and lively the new piece is, the more expensive it is.
Not to speak about adding other special effects such as characteristic artificial eyes, lashes, make-up and so on. People write: “I just want a few masks like this.” That’s very expensive, unfortunatelly. The most expensive job is to create only one piece. A creation of a professional, esthetic and quality design of a  prototype, is a time - consuming and  difficult procedure. It sounds dodgy if somebody offers a creation of a custom-made mask for amount under 3000USD, for instance. You can count on an unprofessional, kitschy product (very expensive for a price mentioned above, by the way). For this amount of money somebody can make a whole a lot of own, perfect masks or a characters costumes by himself/herself and there still would be some money left for a party for friends.
A new prototype of a politician wouldn't be finished before someone new comes along. We can make a custom made prototype in an exceptional cases. It depends on a topic, time requested/needed, a character of the project and a financial side.


NEW PRODUCTS

I don’t plan to add present, living, negative types e.g. politicians, to my collection of Masks of Faces. The purpose of Masks of Faces and variations is to support a creativity -an evolving game. We do not support or advertise any living, world well-known persons who are involved in other people’s suffering and tragedies and who attacks a humanity in any form. If there are masks inspired by real, fantasy or stylised world’s offer, here in my horror's collection, it went thru a carefull, creative treating by my designers to  fulfill a form of fun for just about everybody’s speed. Still, in a frame within the necessary and moral code of civilization. That I, G-Fantomas keep an eye on. A creative piece of work has to remain responsible as any piece of work. An art should be beautiful. I know, in my case, the beauty of my art is sometimes a little controversial but even an ugliness has the right to be esthetic. The perfect Mask of Face actively supports a physical and psychical development. Not its decline.
There are still new products coming up, here in GF. There is a whole line of works of art in my company, waiting for its time in my stores. I go public with these new pieces when a good occasion occurs, so my collection constantly grows bigger.  You can look forward to more interesting, uncommon as well as common faces my author and his team’s atelier create.
I keep the collection of masks on the most professional level to ensure that the illusion and enchantment a mask can create is enormous when used well. That‘s why I hold on to only one world’s well known, signature desing of a top stylised artist. He can do magic with a pencil and clay. It is well-tried for two decades. He’s almost as good as me, G-Fantomas. I do not produce another’s authors works of art. Masks of Faces are a specialised branch in my company. I do not work with other topic such as costumes and accesories.


ANIMATED MASK AND COPYRIGHT

In a music industry, it is known that a songwriter comes up with his/hers own author’s composition ( he/she composed – wrote down dots on a sheet of music).
Interprets or the author himself/herself uses instruments to create a music that can be heard and records it on a music media. The original of a music media goes to a music producent. The producent produces copies on polycarbonate plastic media and delivers those to customers. To avoid this plastic tray being used as a beer-mat, the producent prints a face of the composer on the media (in case the composer is ugly, a whole concert hall is printed onto it instead). The media has a technical, neccessary hole in the middle. Usually, otherwise a very nice musician is suddenly loosing an eye, a tooth or a piece of his/her nose. In case there are more people on the printing some musicians can loose their whole head. That’s why they put layers of a colourful, thin, mirror foil as well, so each person, who buyes the CD, can see himself/herself in its reflection. Our own reflection pleases us the most and the music sounds better then too. Anyways, the form and the contens of a music media doesn’t cut it all the time very well. On the other hand, such music media could be very practical – they can be easily stored. A music lovers with smaller flats have something to be thankful for.
Our skillful ancestors came up with some interesting thing. There are postcards, which are also a gramophone disc. A paper postcard is possible to lay onto a gramophone and it starts to play music, thanks to a transparent, grooved foil.
It is very nice when any technicall media with any author’s work fills in a natural way another meaning. As it is with this postcard, for example. It covers three emotional aspects at once: one can write an love poetry that spins head of his/hers beloved person, than, you can see a melodramatic picture and at last it plays a music as well (now this could addle an elephant's bride wits). That’s what I call amazing, low-budget idea that sweeps an user off the feet.
But the main questions remains. Who is the most important author of such thing? The photographer? The composer? The love poetry writer? One thing is for sure. There can be three reasons for keeping that postcard. When a modern music media is out of date it is only good to use it to tease others with its sun glare or to shoo birds.
The bearer of the Mask of Face (latex) serves as a direct and daedal support of an author’s craft. If the bearer was a piece of metal for instance, the Mask of Face would not move. It could have produced a strong voice if one was talking in it, but one could easily cut himself too. It would be cheaper to put a bucket with punctured eye holes, on one’s head.
It means that ingenious latex bearer allowes the Masks of Faces to move and the movements raise back the effect of Masks of Faces. So, the original sculptor's piece of work  and the bearer's material significantly supports each other. I consider this as a huge advantage. Not as a matter of course. This advantage sends a piece of art with a possibility of movements to a sphere of consumer goods. Therefore, an inanimationed matter can be brought to life such as a marionette, for instance. An artist had to come up with an creative face (as a drawing in a sketch book), as a composer had to come up with an composition. Then, as musician, he had to transfer (with different tools though) the piece of art into a tangible form. An author creates so called artistic original. Then comes the producent who optimizes the piece of art for a transfering on a suitable media/bearer which in the same case (the masks as well as the postcard) fulfills another important dimension of the piece of art itself.
By a combination of all this, an original "animated sculpture" is formed and because it is hollow, one can put it on a head and transform it into a motiv of face. The last thing that remains is to cheer one's neighborhood as well as the person himself/herself. All this is commonly called "a mask". A mask and a CD has exactly the same path (there is only a few differences  - their industrial enlistment, name - work of art, work of music). Logicaly, both pieces of art has to have their own author, who‘s  protected by copyright.
Some cases form time to time happen, when somebody does not think of the copyright and then it is a neccesary to intervene. These people think that they‘ll get an atractive, author's craft for a very cheap price. And just because  they think nobody else in the world haven't gotten a genius idea like this they earn money (with somebody else's piece of work) wherever they can. But in the end, (originally) saved money become dearer.  Thanks to the highest level of professionality that is being put in our products to please our customers, many artists and businessmen are attracted. Due to this, we get to see, from time to time, our products in different TV shows, advertisement, movies or music videos. A professional businessmen ask for a permission to use our products beforehand. Others have to be contacted to handle that matter additionally. In case these people keep resisting to fulfill their legal duties, we sometimes must totally destroy the newly generated product. Sounds too harsh? Totally. That's justice. Even the smallest TV channel protects and defends its rights. The less rights it has, the more aggressive it can be. GF honours every interest in us and within the frame of our possibilities we try to satisfy needs of any honest producents. The mask has a big value. If a producent has his/hers feet firmly on the ground he/she asks for a licence beforehand and in case that  he/she doesn't want to have an exclusive rent of our product (piece of work) for life, we will try to find every way  to satisfy the dreams of his/hers.

Huge team of professionals in many workrooms, including those in offices (administration, sales, personal..), look after the masks quality as well as a procedure how to bring  an inanimated matter to life. The problematics of all the process are logicaly not in a power of one man or a team who would work in inconvenient conditions. The team who work in our company under a set of many strict regulations has to be assembled from professionals in every possible aspect. Only that can assure a production of quality replicas of an author's craft without destroying its "soul". As you know, the bearer is ingeniously elevated to a movements friendly side of Masks of Faces. There is never enough of a perfection. Therefore, to make the bearer, we use natural latex only which is an "living" organism. It is similar to flowers being used to enhance creams and soaps. The fight about an illusion imitating life is very hard but to us it is very interesting as well. That's why we've never started to produce colorful plastic toys using heavy machinery altough it was recommended to us by many.
It is true, though, that the bearer has its own life cycle. When handling carefuly (see the instruction of usage and storage) it can last for many years. Anyway, if thrown away, it starts a quick and safe decomposition in any climate. That is very important for nature and for our future generation. The only thing that stays forever are experiences or photographs. In case you'd like to share these with me do not hesitate and send some! COPYRIGHT

The price of the Mask of Face character includes the author's fee. A new owner of a replica of an author's craft, who bought the product for a personal, non- profitable use, is -  as for the copyright -  settled, after a payment for the goods. (There are no additional fees for repeated usage) If the new owner doesn't use the product for a profitable/commercial use, there is no risk. The price of Mask of Face covers all production expenses.


COMMERCIAL / PROFITABLE USE OF MASK OF FACE

Commercial use of Mask of Face is possible only when a special written licence is closed. This licence is  issued by the author and the owner of of copyright through the production GF company, who's a holder of general, exclusive licence for replicas of  the creative author's craft.

In the Gf company, according to our dramaturgy, it is a priority to communicate with direct, non commercial user. With a courtesy of the author and under a certain circumstances there is a possibility to provide the replicas of an author's crafts to a third person  - through a non exclusive licence for commercial use. The GF company usually provides such licence to creative projects producents and to producents of consumer directed products. Also, we provide the licence for producents with distributional businesses focused on world-wide consumer market, where  a mask ends at a non commercial user for his/hers individual use. Next to other replicas and their media these masks create an offer.
It is a neccessary to individualy consider all aspect of a request and a character of a new, commercial project of an creative producent to avoid damages on masks themselves as well as on a rightful, lawful interests of right holders and producents.

Professional producent of a creative project

 

As a producent of a creative project we consider both  investor of a project (hiring creative specialists and artists) e.g. film projects, live concerts, etc, and creative specialist or artist, who performs live or is an executive artist in a project produced by himself/herslef. In both cases there is a planned commercial usage of mask  (its public showing, broadcasting etc.), incl. potential  creative alterations of existing author's craft. A concrete responsible person - see Licence. Should any professional creative producent of any creative commercial project (incl. additional activities such as advertisment, presentation, lossleader) insists on usage of a concrete replica of an author's craft form existing collection of masks, it is required to request a written agreement from the copyright owner and the holder of the general, exclusive  licence. To do so, provide us with a clasic Licence agreement. Mentioned licence is custom made and is issued by GF company instead of author himself. An applicant is also required to provide a written, detailed and exact identification, assumed form of usage, alterations and copying. We pay special attention to the extension of public showing and broadcasting of an author's replica. In case of need, we will request any eventual  additional answers which allow us to properly consider the details of requested licence agreement for concrete project (its budget, people interested in the project etc.), in a written form.
According to an author's wish we inform that:
The owner of the copyright does not agree with usage of Masks of Faces in activities where the piece of art serves as a demonstration of thieving or any forms of violence. An exception could be an obvious exaggeration or parody. The author also does not agree with usage in cases where a moral code is denied and the mask is within the frame of naturalistic believability degraded.
The owner of the copyright does not agree with usage, broadcasting etc. of piece of art which serves in degrading way as a mascot or a  form of a brand to other products, pieces of work, projects etc. The same applies for projects which (due to its exploiting extension ) would induce an degrading service or a risk, or even practical, liquidating "changes" due to inappropriate usage.
The owner of the copyright agrees only with concrete usage, broadcasting etc. Requests for timeless and  locally limitless usage, broadcasting etc. of a piece of art at existing collection cannot be accepted.
The owner of copyright  cannot, with regards to applicable author's laws as well as his own extreme workload, take in consideration requests for licence, should this licence be formally non standard, prooving an inexperience in a specialised field, or an averseness to provide needed details or requests required. (How to require a licence see above). The same applies at requests with obvious denying of standard copyright. Should there be any following doubts about an earnest of a project or a producent while opening of preparations to grant a licence , the administration will be closed.
The owner of the copyright cannot consider a granting of  licence without receiving the request form and requested details at least 4 weeks earlier than the project in question  should start. Regarding to a process, the author cannot take in consideration any shorter notices. This does not include already existing licences which need to be extended in case they do not requires essential changes of a content.

A new, custom made piece of art


Author's fees and producing expenses are adequate  to a new, original, professional custom made prototypes when creating  a new piece for a professional creative producent - a sculpture of a head etc., followed by an production of an author's replica  in the GF producent's workroom e.g in an amount of 6pcs.  The author accepts an individual activity outside the frame of the GF dramaturgy only exceptionally, in case of extraordinary, inspirative idea. It is because of  labour consumption  and a proffessional responsibility for the end product.

A possibility of  producing a custom made piece of art is stopped for the years 2010 - 2011 due to the author's  workload. Should there be a matter with no concrete, actual terms, it is possible to start a tentative, non-commital dealings.

Industrially consumable oriented projects – professional producent



Should you have any questions about conditions of  usage of 2D, 3D form for industrial goods of a  consumer character, its advertisment, presentation etc., see chapter „A new, custom made piece of art“, „Professional creative producent“ and „Licence“.



PROFESSIONAL DISTRIBUTION


Among professional distributors, we  prefer tradesmen with smaller shops or stalls  according to the author's wish. When an aplicable licence is agreed on,  we deliver requested products in a similar way as we deliver to  customers all around the world. Licence gives the right to use advertising materials of GF company such as professional photographs of replicas of author's craft etc. We rarely issue the licence to wholesalers, chain stores and others, if it disables an individual access to the mask or interests of customers. The way of trading of quantity directed chain stores degrades the masks. A mask is not a banana or trousers or other consumable goods. The Mask of Face needs its space and proper surroundings. A chaos is not good for the masks. We do not issue the licence to producents with business interest in only one or two types of masks. That is a contradiction with the author's wish and with interests and needs of our direct customers. We usualy do not issue the licence to inexperienced businessmen. The rules are unfortunately strict but adequate to our products, which are designated to be delivered to a customer to serve his/hers creative game.

On the contrary, more than welcome are honest business distributors (whether from our business line or not)   with general interest in masks and zest of distributing of wide percentage of masks from our collection (at least 40%). The best approach is to sell our masks as a supplement article (for example, in gift shops, etc.). Well chosen masks (1-3 types or pieces), arranged in a right way attract customers at one glance. What else is there in the business world to wish for.
Many distributors think that if they don’t remove the manufacturer’s identification, and legal aspects of GF company - the holder of general exclusive licence , many of their potential customers will contact the manufacturer directly, instead. This is a mistake and prejudice though – or rather a certain type of inappropriate scepticism against the GF company. Should a trust be missing on one or both sides - it is advisable not to cooperate at all.  If two sides agree on a cooperation voluntarily, the rules which were set have to be fulfilled. It is proved by a long term practise that users preffer a tradesman from their neighborhood. Somebody who speaks their language. Another aspect to this matter is that not everybody wants to pay postal expenses for orderform abroad. (Should a tradesman ask for unadequate prices - a lower or none interest is understadable). A licence contains safety rules which explain teritorial questions, or takes into account an advertising investments of a business partner against a competition.
It a neccessary to highlight that by removing any of informative materials (altough, it is possible to substitute those with ones in particular language modifications) a tradesman counteracts againt rightful request of the producent of replicas - the holder of the general, exclusive licence. Particular articles of copyright are violated by such behaviour. By hiding the identification of the owner of copyright, the tradesman takes voluntarily full lawful responsibility for results of potential damages regarding a copyright and others. For instance, if  a producent of creative projects (unaware and misled due to hidden identification) buys a replica,  uses it and broadcasts it for commercial use, a threat of legal consequences is very real.  Nonnegligible financial as well as prestigious damages  can be claimed from a distributor afterwards.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USERS OF ELASTIC RUBBER FACES AND MASKS MADE BY Greyland Film®

  • While putting on the GF® PRODUCT or taking it off, stay calm. A calm, sensitive and gentle approach minimizes the risk of mechanical damage to the rubber face/mask.

  • Insert both hands into the neck part and stretch the face/mask gently to pull it over your head. Start from the crown of the head or from the chin.

  • Once you have pulled the face/mask over your head, you might not have adjusted the eye holes to your eyes accurately. Don´t worry! Do not pull the nose, ears, etc. Calm down and make the adjustments, slowly and gently. Use your finger pads or palms to move the mask until you seat the eye holes properly. The face/mask must fit your head with no tension.

  • While putting on the mask/face, leave your hair loose. A plait, pig tail or bun will make you feel uncomfortable –the face/mask would press against you.

  • It is recommended to practise the putting on and removing the mask/face while seated. Keep your eyes closed. Do not pull the nose, ears or lips.

REMEMBER: The face/mask is made of rubber. However, it’s not indestructible!
